Kylee Mattern – Meet the Teacher

Meet the Teacher

Mrs. Kylee Mattern

Hi, I’m Mrs. Mattern!

I have taught at SHC Middle School since 2004.   For two years, I taught 8th grade American History.  Since the 2006-2007 school year, I have been teaching 7th grade geography, which I truly enjoy and adore!  I also developed a mini-course called Great Destinations (now retired), which focuses on national parks and tourist destinations around our country and the world. I am developing another mini-course focusing on Pennsylvania History.  Before coming to SHC, I taught world history to sophomores at McGuffey High School for a year.

I grew up about 25 minutes southwest of Pittsburgh and I’m a Washington County native. I still say pop instead of soda, buggy instead of cart, and gob instead of whoopie pie! (Dialect is a part of geography!)

Graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School, Houston, PA – 1999

+ I was a member of Phi Alpha Theta history honorary.

Interests: traveling, using Google Earth (I’m a very visual learner), history, music, concerts (I love grunge and heavy metal), trivia, art, studying different cultures, the Internet and web design, cooking and baking, Pittsburgh sports teams, road trips, volleyball, visiting museums, repurposing, and shopping.

If you see me outside of school, I’m typically wearing sunglasses (I love my shades).

My family is very important to me. I have been married since July 2005 and my husband is also a social studies teacher.  Also, I am an aunt to seven awesome kids!

Lastly, as my students know, I love shoes!  They are the perfect accessory.
